How do I get a book or article from another library?

If D'Amour Library doesn't have a book or article you need, we can almost always get another library to send us a copy using Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL is a system used by libraries worldwide; not only do we regularly borrow materials from other libraries, but we routinely send out materials to them.

There are two important things to remember about ILL:

  • Before placing an ILL request, make sure the book or article isn't already available through the library (either in print or online) or through an open access route such as Google Scholar.
  • ILL takes time. The turnaround time for an article is usually one to three business days; for a book it can be up to two weeks. The only exception is APPE Learners, for whom we provide same-day service for articles needed to complete a clinical rotation.

ILL and Books

If your search for a book doesn't turn up in WILDPAC, you can use the ILL form to request a copy.

ILL and Articles

There are multiple ways to request articles from Interlibrary Loan.

You can request articles directly from the Full-Text Finder screen in Academic Search Premier and other databases. Look for the link titled "D'Amour Library Inter-Library Loan Request Form." The bibliographic information will already be filled out, you only need to enter your contact information.

Alternatively, you can use the ILL form and fill out the information manually.
